The colored areas in the above map represent the current offshore wind energy areas in southern New England. Contained within and immediately surrounding these lease areas are popular recreational fishing spots for highly migratory fish species (HMS), which include:
- Tuna (bluefin, yellowfin, albacore/longfin)
- White marlin
- Mahi mahi
- Sharks (mako, common thresher, blue, porbeagle, tiger, smooth hammerhead)
To better characterize the nature, extent, and magnitude of recreational fishing for HMS in southern New England and identify areas of overlap with wind energy areas, we need your help! If you fished for HMS in the southern New England region anytime during the 2021 fishing season, please respond to the survey to the best of your ability.
Thank you for your help and please reach out to Dr. Jeff Kneebone ([email protected]) at the New England Aquarium if you have questions, comments, or difficulty completing the survey.
