2022 National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Summit

NOAA Fisheries and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission are happy to announce that registration is now open for the 2022 National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Summit. The Summit will be held on March 29-30, at the Westin Crystal City in Arlington, VA. At this time, we are planning on an in-person meeting, with the option for remote streaming of the plenary sessions. These plans may change, and we will make a final decision on the status of the Summit by February 14, 2022. Any changes will be posted to the NOAA Fisheries event webpage and the Eventbrite registration page.

The theme for the 2022 Summit is Recreational Fisheries in a Time of Change. Our world is experiencing substantial change that is affecting many facets of life, including our oceans and fisheries. Climate change, novel uses of ocean space, new technologies, and more, offer both challenges and opportunities for collaboration to safeguard and improve the state of recreational fisheries. Members of the recreational fishing community, managers, and scientists must work together to understand and adapt to these changes to ensure abundant and sustainable recreational fishing opportunities for this generation and the next.

More information, including the schedule, meeting materials, and other details will be posted on the event webpage as it is available. The agenda will be continually updated as we confirm the speakers.

Registration and Costs

Registration for in-person attendance is limited, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we encourage everyone to register early. In-person registration is available online through Eventbrite, and most attendees should use the ‘General Registration’ category. Registration is free, although general attendees will need to cover the costs of airfare, hotel, and incidental expenses (see Travel section below for additional information). Courtesy of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, breakfast and lunch will be provided each day, and there will be a reception on the evening of March 29th that will include appetizers and a cash bar. A separate registration link for individuals planning to stream the event online will be available on the NOAA event webpage closer to the date of the Summit.

The Summit will be held at the Westin Crystal City, which is in close proximity to Reagan National Airport. Attendees will be responsible for making their own hotel and airfare reservations, as well as transit to and from the hotel. An email will be sent to those who have registered on or about February 14th, 2022 regarding the status of the Summit. Given the uncertainties associated with COVID-19, please do not book travel until you receive a follow-up email confirming that the Summit will take place as scheduled. Additionally, there are limited funds to assist with hotel expenses for Summit attendees. If you require assistance for hotel expenses, please reach out to
