America’s Conservation Enhancement Reauthorization Act Gets Senate Hearing 

On Tuesday, March 12, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) is expected to vote on the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Reauthorization Act (S. 3791). This bipartisan legislation reauthorizes the National Fish Habitat Partnership, protects the use of traditional fishing tackle, and funds the Chesapeake Bay Program.

The hearing will be streamed live on EPW’s website beginning tomorrow at 10 AM ET.

Right Whale Technology Workshop Highlights Conservation Solutions

On March 5-7, NOAA held a workshop that brought representatives from the angling, recreational boating and marine electronics industry together with other experts in vessel strike reduction to share ideas and ongoing work to conserve North Atlantic right whales. ASA’s Atlantic Fisheries Policy Director, Mike Waine, participated in the workshop.

While the workshop helped illuminate the tremendous potential of technology to allow for real-time detection and avoidance of right whales, ASA is disappointed that NOAA continues to proceed with its ineffective and economically devastating speed rule.

Interior Department Establishes Everglades to Gulf Conservation Area

The Department of the Interior announced the establishment of the Everglades to Gulf Conservation Area in southwest Florida as the 571st and newest unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The establishment of the Conservation Area will catalyze conservation within 4,045,268 acres using tools like voluntary conservation easements with willing landowners.Read More
