South Portland, MN – The Casco Bay Bluefin Bonanza tuna tournament recently awarded $1,600 to the Southern Maine Community College Foundation, bolstering their endowment for the Lindsay Withers Memorial Scholarship for emergency medical services/paramedicine trainees.
Capt. Lindsay Withers was a proud member of the Bluefin Bonanza team. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer far too soon. It was her wish that the Bonanza honor her legacy as an EMT, paramedic and EMS supervisor by creating this scholarship. It is awarded to students enrolled in the Southern Maine Community College Emergency Medical Services/Paramedicine program, with a preference to students who are licensed EMTs from a rural municipal or regional first responder program. Many rural communities in Maine are under-served when it comes to first responders. This scholarship is directed toward those communities that otherwise lack the means to provide proper training.
“We were very proud to establish this endowment in Lindsay’s honor,” said Bluefin Bonanza president Bob Humphrey. “But the job is never done and we hope others who recognize the importance of this service to rural communities will consider helping us add to it so we can put more first responders out in the field.”
