Breezy Isn’t Always Easy in Newest Episode of “Chasin’ The Sun”

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., – Renowned fly angler Meredith McCord returns to Panama City Beach in an attempt to catch a redfish trifecta in this week’s episode of “Chasin’ The Sun”, Off & On Redfish. The award-winning television show, presented by Visit Panama City Beach, will air on Saturday, April 16 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern & Pacific / 7:30 a.m. Central on Discovery Channel.

Capt. Justin Leake plans to fish the crystal-clear water off Crooked Island, a desolate stretch of coastline on the edge of Tyndall Air Force Base. However, he soon learns the base will be conducting aerial training missions and the spot will be off limits for the day.

“The moment you think you have it all dialed in, something changes,” says McCord. “More often than not, you have to go through different plans because you never know what you’re going to get.”

Capt. Leake navigates to another area along the coastline while McCord tries to catch her first-ever beach redfish on conventional tackle. The redfish eventually begin to cooperate but, when the wind picks up, Justin heads to West Bay in search of calmer water and redfish schooling in the shallow flats. McCord breaks out a fly rod to accomplish her feat of catching the gamefish on artificial lure, live bait and fly.

“There’s always technique, skill, thought and processes involved in fishing,” says Capt. Leake. “Every year, I still encounter things that I’ve never seen or done before and that’s what keeps me learning and that’s what keeps it fun.”

Later in the episode, some of the popular activities that visitors can experience “rain or shine” in Panama City Beach are featured.

The fishing and coastal lifestyle television program showcases the diverse angling, diving and cultural opportunities found in the emerald-green waters of Panama City Beach.
