Community Fishing Ponds Open March 12 in Wisconsin

If you are looking to get your kids out of the house, head to your local pond for a great fishing opportunity.

Each year, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) fisheries staff stock fish in small lakes and ponds under 25 acres in urban areas that are cooperatively managed with local municipalities.

These community fishing locations were designed to make fishing opportunities more readily available, and to encourage youngsters to go fishing. This year, the pond fishing season opens Saturday, March 12 and runs through Friday, April 29 .

Be aware that only kids under the age of 15 and certain disabled anglers can fish these urban waters. Review pages 23-24 in the Guide to Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations for urban and community fishing regulations and find your next fishing adventure close to home!
