Dan Marking Retires from Vexilar

Dan Marking, who started his career in the fishing industry in 1985, has retired after 35 years in the business.

For 11 years Dan was a road salesman for Faber Brothers in Northern Minnesota calling on independent dealers.  His sales manager was the legendary Wayne Kozlowski.  “Wayne gave me my first break, he certainly had a reputation in the industry of being a hard nose negotiator”.

Dan had a 4 year stint with Maurice Sporting Goods and then was named Regional Sales Manager for Lindy Little Joe Tackle Company.

“Lindy was one of the best jobs I ever had.  I had the opportunity to work with industry legends like Hall of Fame owner Nick Adams, Ron Kiffmeyer, Steve Borders, HOF Angler Ted Takasaki and HOF Angler Tommy Skarlis. “Lindy was always on the cutting edge of introducing new and innovative products, not the me-too versions so many companies do these days.  The best 11 years of my life”

Dan didn’t survive the buyout of Lindy by Pradco in 2009 and was fired.  “Getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to me!  I was unemployed for over a year, the musky fishing was great and then came my big break”!

Dan was hired in 2011 by Jim Burkett the owner of the PMI Rep Group and has been the Vexilar/K Drill rep in Minnesota the past ten years.

“Working for Jim at PMI has taken me to the next level.  I cannot thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to sell Vexilar and K Drill products.  #1 Brand and #1 Boss”.

The team at Vexilar/K Drill is under the leadership of Hall Of Fame owner Steve Bauman, HOF Sales manager Tom Zenanko, Corey Studer and Laurie Foell.  “They consistently brought new and innovative products to the marketplace to lead the ice fishing category,” says Marking.

What now?

“The first item on my retirement list is something I call MTM….Muskies, Tarpon and Marlin,” he says.

Marking is an avid musky fisherman and has over 550 muskies registered with Muskies Inc.  Now he’ll have time to add a whole lot more.
