WASHINGTON, D.C. — Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) will release updated economic data on outdoor recreation’s powerful and positive economic impact on the U.S. economy at a tele-briefing on Tuesday, November 10th at 10:00 am EST. The report will include national and state level data for both 2018 and 2019 and there will be time for media questions at the end of the call.
This will be the third consecutive year that BEA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, has released data on the outdoor recreation economy. Last year’s report highlighted these eye-opening figures and is used widely by the industry, policy makers and the media: outdoor recreation makes up 2.2 percent of U.S. GDP, generating $778 billion in gross output and supporting 5.2 million jobs. Next week’s release will show where this growing sector was prior to the pandemic and where it can be again. ORR leaders will also take time on the call to discuss how the industry has been, and continues to be, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, how it is dealing with these unique circumstances and how it continues to produce jobs and economic recovery for the U.S. economy.
