MA DMF Scoping Meeting on 2023 Menhaden Fishery Management

Menhaden Draft Addendum I considers potential changes to the current interstate management provisions for commercial allocations, the episodic event set aside program, and the incidental catch and small-scale fisheries provision. Through the subsequent scoping meeting, DMF seeks to gather public input on commercial management measures for the 2023 fishery, both as they relate to potential outcomes of Draft Addendum I as well as addressing in-state management issues, such as seasonality, rate of harvest, user conflict, compliance, and reporting. This scoping meeting serves as a precursor to a state public hearing on any proposed management revisions for 2023 needed to comply with the interstate plan or improve state management. Given the current timeline for the draft addendum’s approval by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (early November), a state public hearing is likely to occur in mid-winter.
