Inshore Slam Adventure Featured In New Episode Of “Chasin’ The Sun”

Panama City Beach, FL – A flounder trip turns into a multi-species challenge for Capt. Justin Leake and Meredith McCord inFlounder To Slam, this week’s all-new episode of “Chasin’ The Sun.” The award-winning fishing and coastal lifestyle television series produced by Visit Panama City Beach will air on Saturday, January 20, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern / Pacific and 7:30 a.m. Central on Discovery Channel and Sunday, January 21, at 9:30 a.m. Eastern / 8:30 a.m. Central on Waypoint TV.

Capt. Justin Leake and world-class fly angler Meredith McCord opt for jigs instead of gigs to target flounder in late spring off Panama City Beach. It’s one of the best times to fish these waters because practically all the species favored by anglers are abundant.

Leaving the dock just as the sun comes up, Justin’s plan is to pursue the so-called “Inshore Slam” by catching flounder, redfish and speckled trout. When he spots a small pocket of flounder in about four feet of water, the competition starts with jigs bounced along the sandy bottom to entice a bite.

Justin brings in a flounder almost immediately but Meredith, who has never caught one of these flatfish on conventional tackle, gets frustrated when her bites turn out to be bluefish, skipjack and a devious stickfish. Capt. Leake can’t resist the opportunity to tease his co-host with some friendly trash talk. “She’s working on the ‘Trash Can Slam,’” he says with a laugh.

But Meredith is a quick study and, after fine tuning her presentation, redeems herself by landing the day’s biggest flounder while Justin hauls in a nice black drum and monster speckled trout.

Later in the episode, we visit the iconic Carousel Supermarket, where shoppers enjoy spectacular gulf views from the checkout lanes.

Produced in partnership with Pinfish Media, “Chasin’ The Sun” is sponsored by Florida Watersports, Holiday Inn Resort, Humminbird, Minn Kota and Pirates Cove Marina.
