It’s Record Breaking Time in New Episode of “Chasin’ The Sun”

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., – Millions of fish swim in the Gulf of Mexico but, in this week’s episode of “Chasin’ The Sun,” the focus is on only one when Capt. Justin Leake invites professional fly angler Meredith McCord back to the destination in Chasin’ a World Record Part 1. The award-winning television show, presented by Visit Panama City Beach, will air on Saturday, January 22 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern & Pacific / 7:30 a.m. Central on Discovery Channel.

McCord, who has set more than 230 International Game Fish Association species and line class world records, has a proven system of pinpointing opportunities and Capt. Leake is confident that she has done her homework. When initial efforts to catch a trophy Spanish mackerel fall short, Justin heads for an artificial reef teeming with amberjack and McCord sets her sights on breaking the eight-pound line class record, which was previously set off the coast of North Carolina in 2000. Soon, chumming live pilchards leads to an amberjack boil and it’s “game on” when Meredith sets the hook on a nice one that just might set a new standard.

Anticipation builds as the pair races to the certified scale at Capt. Anderson’s Marina to weigh the fish, but excitement turns to disappointment when Meredith’s amberjack comes up just a few ounces short of the record.

“I left the day with a conflict of emotions, but all fishermen have hope for the next day, the next fish and the next cast.” says McCord.

After such a close call, Capt. Leake and McCord do not give up. The attempt at breaking the record continues as they return to the water the next day. Viewers will have to tune in to next week’s episode, Chasin’ a World Record Part 2, to see what happens.

The fishing and coastal lifestyle television program showcases the diverse angling, diving and cultural opportunities found in the emerald-green waters of Panama City Beach.
