Guntersville, AL – June 10, 2025 — Nine wins. That’s not a hot streak—that’s a legacy.
Jacob Wheeler rolled into Kentucky Lake with one thing on his mind: winning again. And that’s exactly what he did, claiming his 9th MLF Bass Pro Tour trophy and adding another chapter to a career that’s rewriting the record books.
Wheeler didn’t just ride a hot bait or get lucky with a spot. He out-fished, out-adjusted, and flat-out outfished the field, using a tight rotation of rods and techniques he’s spent years dialing in. Every rod he rigged for a specific situation—and they all went to work.
“I leaned on a handful of rods this week that did exactly what I needed them to do,” Wheeler said. “It wasn’t one bait or one technique—it was adapting, eliminating things that weren’t working, and just going with what felt right.”
Here’s what powered the win:
- 7’1” Medium Jacob Wheeler Select Spinning Rod – Perfect for throwing a 5/16 oz jighead and a bigger-profile minnow. Forward-facing sonar, meet your match.
- 7’6” MH Jacob Wheeler Signature Series Crankin’ Rod – When he needed to fire a deep crankbait, this rod got it done offshore.
- 7’0” Medium Wheeler 2.0 Spinning Rod – A must-have for his Neko rig. This finesse setup was in his hand all week.
- 7’3” Heavy Wheeler 2.0 Casting Rod – Built with a parabolic bend that let him feel a jig crawl, then crack back with power and bury the hook.
- 7’0” Medium Wheeler 2.0 Spinning Rod – The confidence stick. “This rod does something no other rod could do for me,” Wheeler said. “I know I’m getting bit when I pick it up.”
It wasn’t just about the rods—it was about instincts. Wheeler made decisions in real time, especially on Championship day where his starting spot didn’t pan out like he had planned. He adjusted, made quick decisions, and ultimately took home his 9th BPT Trophy.
When asked if win number nine felt different, Wheeler said:
“They’re all different. The first few, you’re just trying to believe it’s real, you don’t even know if you can win. Now, I look back and see each one as its own story. They all feel different, and they each have their own set of memories and circumstances. This one? This one’s part of the journey too.”
When asked what his go-to post Championship meal was, Wheeler said:
“If I’m home, I’m grilling a steak. On the road? Sushi—if I can find a legit spot.”
