Jaz Robinson loves to fish. Most weekend mornings, you’ll find her on the banks of the fishing pond at Lakeside Park in Duncanville, near Dallas. It’s where she caught her first fish, an experience that transformed her life.
“I had fished a few times before but had never caught one. In fact, I was close to giving up on it. But after that first catch, I just couldn’t stop.”
As Jaz became more confident in her skills, she began sharing what she knows with others, especially women of color. As her Instagram bio proclaims, Jaz is “Just a sista who loves to fish. Embracing the passion. Stick around and witness the journey!”
Jaz will be the first to tell you she isn’t an expert and is learning more every day. She has also learned more about conservation.
“I can’t say that I thought about it much previously before I was fishing all the time. But now I am, and I am so aware of the lakes and rivers and fishing ponds out there. We have to take care of these places so they are a safe haven for fish and wildlife.”
It’s why she is proud to join the ranks of We Will Not Be Tamed ambassadors for Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF). We Will Not Be Tamed calls us to appreciate the wildness of Texas, the vastness of our Texas spirit, and why we should be inspired to conserve it.
Jaz appreciates the work TPWF has done over the last 30 years to conserve our iconic landscapes, restore our native species and enhance the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) ability to safeguard our state’s waters, lands and wildlife.
From conserving Texas rivers and restoring native wildlife, to enhancing Texas State Parks and training the next generation of Texas Game Wardens, TPWF is able to fund high-impact, meaningful projects thanks to the support of our members.
When you become a member of TPWF you are helping to ensure future generations can enjoy and explore the wild things and wild places of Texas.
Will you join Jaz in becoming a member of TPWF today? Together we can help conserve and protect the waters, lands and wildlife that make Texas so special.
