Learn to Tie Jigs and Flies

Enjoy fishing and catching fish with artificial lures? It’s time to discover the art of jig tying! Nothing is more satisfying than catching a fish on a jig you tied yourself.

So, what is jig tying? It’s the art of using materials like thread, feathers or fur that are attached to a hook to imitate insects found in the stream environment. Jigs can be tied to be impressionistic, realistic or artistic. Historical record shows that this skill started as early as 200AD, but despite many major advances in tools and synthetic materials, the basic techniques are still used today.

Tying your own jigs is a great hobby that is relaxing, creative and rewarding plus it doesn’t cost a lot of money to get started. All you need to get started is a tying vise, thread bobbin, scissors and of course you will need the material you will use to tie your jig.

Make plans to register for this Saturday’s Jig Tying programs (ages 9 and up) at 12:00 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. All equipment and materials are supplied and you will go home with two flies.

Have a little one? Register them for our in-person Little Acorns programs held the first and third Saturday of each month.
