The inaugural Modelo Memorial Mahi Mayhem Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30, at locations all along Florida’s East Coast, Director Robert “Fly” Navarro announced today. This family friendly mahi-only (dolphin fish) tournament is hosted by Fly Zone Fishing and produced by Rock The Harbor, Inc. and AAG Live. Cerveza Modelo and Constellations Brands are the event’s sponsors.
“After a crazy 2020, we’re ready to go fishing,” Navarro says. “We made the entry fee very affordable so as many people as possible could participate. We just want everyone to get out on the water and have fun! That’s our goal.”
The entry fee will be $250 per team with no limit on anglers or line class. Mahi must be at least 30 pounds and caught on rod and reel only. Catches will be verified by video footage. In the event of a tie, the first fish weighed will win. The scales close each day at 6 p.m. and the three heaviest daily fish will earn cash prizes.
Satellite weigh stations will be open all along Florida’s East Coast. Sites include Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Sebastian, Fort Pierce, Stuart, West Palm Beach, Lighthouse Point, Miami, Ocean Reef, Bud & Mary’s Marina in Islamorada and Key West. Live interviews will be conducted from all the weigh stations and broadcast on social media throughout the tournament.
Along with the angling action, Rock The Harbor, Inc., and AAG Live will be hosting concerts every day and night during the two-day event. Three national headline acts are already scheduled, with more expected in the coming weeks. The concerts will be at the Causeway Cove Marina in Fort Pierce (601 Seaway Dr.). This is the premier outdoor event venue on the Treasure Coast with room for 1,600 vehicles and a capacity of 5,000 guests. Concert-goers can come by car, boat or even helicopter. The facility even has beaches on-site where guests can enjoy the music from the water.
Besides being tournament headquarters, the Causeway Cove Marina will also host a vendor village. More than 60 vendors are expected to erect booths to sell their products. Modelo beer and other refreshments, plus food will be available on the 18-acre site.
