This week, the headwaters of Bristol Bay in Alaska were issued final Clean Water Act safeguards to ensure these resources will remain for future generations of hunters and anglers. The EPA’s decision to restrict and prohibit the discharge of mine waste in Bristol Bay adds another layer of durable protection against the formerly proposed Pebble Mine. This is a major victory for hunters and anglers who have spoken up for the area’s prolific sockeye salmon, trophy trout, and famed brown bears. Collectively, more than four million Americans have asked for conservation safeguards against mining waste in Bristol Bay since 2010.
