Moving *Bait* Bass

There are lots of ways to catch largemouth bass in the summer as they hold in a variety of types of cover, both shallow and deep, and can be caught using various lures in those differing locales.

One of my favorite ways to catch bass is with moving baits.  These baits tend to work well early and late in the day and on overcast, windy days as the bass are often up in the water column and roaming a bit during these conditions making them susceptible to “cast and wind” style baits.

Spinnerbaits and swim jigs are classic moving baits that have been around for decades and are still effective largemouth catchers.  For me, however, I have had more recent summer bass success on a bladed swim jig tipped with a plastic trailer and on a bit of an unconventional crankbait called a Hybrid Hunter.  As the name implies, this bait has a hunting action in the water because of its unique L-shaped bill.  The bait works well for casting and retrieving in the shallows (out to around 5-feet) and deflects off cover like weeds and rocks too.  What I like most about it is that it is a big bass catcher!

If you want to catch more and bigger bass this summer, try a moving bait in the shallows during low light conditions and hang on, because your next bite just may be a biggun!
