NOAA Fisheries MRIP Seminar November 30

NOAA Fisheries’ Marine Recreational Information Program will host its second data user seminar on Tuesday, November 30, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. ET. The training session will provide an overview of the program’s survey designs and statistical methods, with a focus on the program’s three general fishing surveys:

  • The Access Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS), which collects shore, private boat, and for-hire catch-per-trip data from anglers;
  • The Fishing Effort Survey (FES), which collects shore and private boat effort data from coastal households; and
  • The For-Hire Survey (FHS), which collects for-hire effort data from charter and headboat captains.

Participants will learn about the component estimates produced from each survey, as well as how these component estimates come together to produce estimates of total recreational catch and effort.
