NSIA has joined close to 60 Northwest conservation organizations in signing on to two letters, one to Senator Maria Cantwell and the other jointly addressed to Governor Jay Inslee and Senator Patty Murray. These letters (can be read on the NSIA website link below) express gratitude for and urge more action on the efforts these legislators are making to find workable solutions to the deeply complex problem of restoring the dwindling salmon and steelhead populations in the Columbia River system. The letters conclude with the following entreaty: “There has never been a better opportunity to correct past mistakes and create a future that includes abundant salmon, healthy orca populations, and a better and stronger Northwest moving forward. We urge you to recognize in your action plan that restoring a resilient, free-flowing lower Snake River through dam removal is an essential part of creating a comprehensive regional solution and approach.”
