This week, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable released a PSA showcasing the 4.5 million Americans with careers in the outdoor recreation economy—from advanced manufacturing and communications, to sustainability, finance, marketing, land management, environmental science, and so much more.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the outdoor recreation industry grew nearly 19% since 2020 compared to 5.7% for the U.S. economy as a whole, and outdoor jobs grew 13% compared to 2.9%. More Americans than ever before are getting outdoors and moving to places with great access to the outdoors as a result of remote work opportunities. As a result, the outdoor industry needs talented professionals across every segment to help match this momentum.
The rapid growth of the outdoor recreation economy around the United States offers the opportunity to strengthen the industry and build systems for continued growth and success in the years to come. Nowhere is this opportunity more evident than in the outdoor workforce, which provides the foundation for millions of Americans each year to enjoy high-quality outdoor recreation experience on lands and waters.
