Pirate’s Cove Marina and Pavilion announced new ownership. The Harrell Family of Ahoskie, North Carolina purchased the marina and adjacent Pavilion property in December and are kicking off their transition in great style – keeping up with an exceptional giant bluefin bite!
“The Pirate’s Cove Tournaments have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Jim and Tammy Tobin over the years and we are looking forward to the future,” states Tournament Director, Heather Maxwell. “Plans are full steam ahead for our 41st year of tournaments and I’m excited to welcome the Harrells this year as anglers as well as owners.”
The Harrell family has a decades long relationship with Pirate’s Cove Marina. Owners of the charter boat Haulin’ Gas, the family operates Jernigan Oil and Duck Thru service stations and convenience stores throughout the region. Jernigan Oil is the choice of fuel supplier at many of Oregon Inlet’s marinas and has been a proud sponsor of the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournaments for many years.
Construction of Pirate’s Cove Marina began after completion of the community infrastructure in the early 1980’s. Expansions over the years have led to 195 slips ranging from 30 to 75 feet. In slip fueling, on site restaurant and easy access to the community amenities contribute to the world class feel.
Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournaments, Inc is a nonprofit that supports conservation research, veteran programs and the local community. Together with the Dare County Boat Builders Foundation tournament, where the focus is higher education scholarships, the tournaments hosted by Pirate’s Cove Marina boast some of the largest fleets, best billfishing and most generous donations in the industry.
