Today, NOAA Fisheries announced an extension of the comment period for an additional 30 days, ending October 31, 2022, for the proposed rule to modify North Atlantic right whale vessel speed regulations (87 FR 46921, August 1, 2022). NOAA Fisheries received multiple requests for extension of the comment period and multiple requests to maintain the comment period as scheduled. Following consideration of these requests, the agency is extending the comment period to provide further opportunity for public comment and allow additional time for impacted stakeholders to learn of the proposed changes before the comment period deadline. This extension provides a total of 90 days for public input.
