Public Meeting to Discuss 2023 Recreational Halibut and Bottomfish Seasons

ODFW will be hosting a public meeting at 6 pm on Wednesday, October 5 to discuss the 2023 recreational Pacific halibut and bottomfish seasons.

The meeting will be held at the ODFW Newport office, 2040 SE Marine Science Dr.  An online option is available through Microsoft Teams (information below) for those unable to attend in person. Online surveys will also be available by the end of the day on October 3 for anglers to provide input if unable to participate in the meeting.

ODFW manages Pacific halibut in partnership with the Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and seeks feedback on several proposals including the season start date and possible open days per week.

ODFW marine fishery managers also will review preliminary recommendations for the 2023 recreational bottomfish fishery. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider the recommendations and finalize the season structure and regulations at their Dec. 16 meeting.

By the end of the day on October 3, ODFW’s Pacific halibut and groundfish webpages will have the information to be presented at the meeting and links to the online surveys.
