Record-Setting Angler Joins “Chasin’ The Sun” As Co-Host of Show’s Eighth Season

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Renowned angler Meredith McCord teams up with Capt. Justin Leake to co-host the eighth season of “Chasin’ The Sun,” the award-winning fishing and coastal lifestyle television series produced by Visit Panama City Beach. All-new episodes return on Saturday, December 31, on Discovery Channel and Waypoint TV.

McCord has accumulated more than 220 International Game Fish Association (IGFA) world records in various species and line class categories and is a four-time winner of the organization’s “Top Female Angler” award. The Texas native travels the world hosting fly fishing trips and serving as a consultant to an array of international fishing lodges.

“I had a great time fishing with Justin last year and I’m thrilled to be named a co-host for the upcoming season,” says McCord, who landed a world record amberjack in September 2021 while filming an episode in Panama City Beach. “I’ve fished all over the world and Panama City Beach ranks as one of the best fisheries in terms of diversity and quality of catches.”

Capt. Justin Leake, a lifelong local resident and full-time charter fishing guide, returns as co-host of the show, a role he’s filled since “Chasin’ The Sun” debuted in 2016. Each week, Justin will offer expert advice on how to target the wide variety of species that inhabit local waters.

“Whether it’s redfish, snapper, grouper, tarpon or kingfish, our fishery is incredibly diverse and we’re excited to tap into the year-round action and chase something in our waters guaranteed to challenge every angler,” says Capt. Leake.

Capt. Todd Jones, a veteran guide who leads charter trips out of Leake’s Panama City Inshore service, will also make regular appearances during the upcoming season.

“Chasin’ The Sun” has received several honors since its 2016 debut, including U.S. Travel Association’s Destiny Awards for “Best Video, Film or Podcast Series” and “People’s Choice,” as well as Visit Florida’s Flagler Award for niche marketing. Season eight sponsors of “Chasin’ The Sun” include Dulce Vida Tequila, Florida Watersports, Grundéns, Holiday Inn Resort, Humminbird, Minn Kota and Pirates Cove Marina.

Produced in partnership with Pinfish Media, new episodes of “Chasin’ The Sun” will air Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. Eastern/Pacific time and 7:30 a.m. Central time on Discovery Channel through March 2023 and on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. Eastern/9:00 a.m. Central on Waypoint TV through December 2023.
