The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is proud to present Foster McKissick with the Carroll A. Campbell Award, one of the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series’ most prestigious honors. This award recognizes individuals and families who have been an integral part of billfish conservation in South Carolina and who embody the values of former South Carolina Governor and Series founder, Carroll A. Campbell.Â
A dedicated participant in the Series nearly since its inception, McKissick served on the Governor’s Cup board for six years in the mid-2000s and spent a year leading important discussions as its chairman. He later served on SCDNR’s Law Enforcement Advisory Committee, providing critical guidance in the state’s efforts to protect and manage South Carolina’s natural resources, as well as support hunters and anglers.
In addition to receiving the Campbell Award, McKissick took home second place overall in the Series. His season included first-place finishes in the 58th Annual Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament and the Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament, as well as a third-place finish in the HMY Lowcountry Cup. Over the years, he has earned countless podium finishes in the Series, first competing aboard his boat, Overspray, and now as the proud owner of the Rascal.
A man of great character and inspiring generosity, McKissick is known for regularly inviting guests aboard the Rascal, exposing people of various backgrounds and interests to offshore sportfishing for the very first time. He’s been credited for inspiring numerous new blue water anglers, a legacy that reflects the spirit of Governor Campbell and the heart of the Series as a whole.
