Team REMIX Wins Coveted Title Aboard a Contender

Homestead, Fla. – For the second year in a row, the Quest for the Crest series winner was powered by a Contender. This year, that title changed hands and Team REMIX won that title aboard a Contender 44ST.

The Quest for the Crest series comprises three tournaments in south Florida, with stops in Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. More than 40 teams competed in the tournament series this year. The final tournament took place over two days, and in the end, Team REMIX reeled in the win to take home the burgundy jacket and bragging rights in this premier event.

In 2022, Contender’s factory team, C1, took home the title aboard its 44ST that is specially rigged and built for kite fishing. Team C1 finished third this year.

“Our Contender 44ST truly made the difference during this tournament,” said JC Cleare, captain of Team REMIX. “We were down by a lot during that first tournament. We got a tip about a potential location. However, it was 20 miles away and in 8- to 10-foot seas. We made that run with less than 20 minutes to spare and caught more than four fish with time left on the clock.”

“The core of our team has been together for more than a decade,” added Cleare. “Additionally, my wife and teammate, Sarah Melia, was named the top lady angler for the tournament.”

The team was comprised of:

  • JC Cleare
  • Sarah Melia
  • Jorge Corzo
  • Ryan Alexander
  • Chris Dillon (a.k.a.: Tackle Box)
  • Doug Mientkiewicz
  • Rick Arnold
  • Bill Danko

Melia has been a competitive angler for seven years. And as she put it, “I was hooked after my first outing.”

“We’re ecstatic that Team REMIX won this championship,” said Amanda Sabin, Director of Marketing for Contender Boats. “If our factory team couldn’t bring home the burgundy jacket for a repeat, we’re happy that the winning team was atop a Contender.”
