The 53rd Annual Minnesota Bound Crappie Contest

Lake Minnetonka, MN. – It was a LONG time coming, but it’s spring in Minnesota! That means the crappies are biting, and the 53rd Annual Crappie Contest is coming up on May 6th!

“This is the unofficial celebration of Minnesota’s fishing season.” said Ron Schara. “What’s more, the crappies are all willing participants. It may be the only event where the fishing participants are almost guaranteed to get a bite!” Schara will be joined by both his daughter, Laura Schara and Bill Sherck, current TV hosts of Minnesota Bound, on KARE-11/NBC. All three personalities will be on stage for the event, along with Minnesota Bound reporter, Travis Frank.

100% of the proceeds from the event benefit Fishing for Life, a non-profit serving youth, families, veterans & communities through fishing and outdoor programs. Thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded in various ways, including biggest crappies for adult and youth divisions. Any contestant who enters a crappie will be eligible for prizes; grand prize is given to one participant that is closest or equal to the randomly selected crappie weight. To enter the crappie contest, pre-register at  Entry forms are $10 if you pre-register; $20 the day of the event at contest headquarters

Contest hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Each contestant may weigh one crappie to be eligible for prizes.
