The Bass University Seeks Marketing Professional

If you’re a serious bass angler interested in learning more about the sport, you’re already familiar with The Bass University. For more than a decade, TBU has toured the country and covered the internet with top-notch instruction from the world’s most knowledgeable anglers. Now, TBU is looking for a Marketing and Digital Advertising Manager to help the company reach new heights.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving new member growth through advertising, social media, promotions, email, and onsite marketing. He or she will have direct, hands-on ownership of campaign creation, execution, and analysis, as well as coordination with teams in Creative, Product, Marketing, Operations, and Technology. The role requires a laser attention to detail, passion for results, commitment to action-oriented analysis, an anything-is-possible attitude, and a relentless focus on the customer. The right candidate will thrive in a highly entrepreneurial, fast-changing, and collaborative environment where people are driven, enthusiastic, collaborative, and not afraid to take risks.

You’d expect nothing less from a company led by Pete Gluszek and Mike Iaconelli. Gluszek is “the Dean” of The Bass University, and the host of Bass University Live on and YouTube. Iaconelli is a former Bassmaster Classic champion, former Bassmaster Angler of the Year and one of the sport’s most iconic figures.

“The Marketing and Digital Advertising Manager position is a full-time job,” Gluszek explains. “Our hire will work some of the time in our office in Pittsgrove, New Jersey, with some opportunity to work from home. We’re offering a salary of $55,000 to $75,000 per year with the chance to earn more through incentive bonuses. In addition, we offer employee benefits like medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K, and paid vacations and holidays.”

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field of study as well as five-plus years of strong digital marketing experience, advanced knowledge of Facebook, Instagram and YouTube ads, as well as Google Ad Word and SEO expertise. Applicants with a strong understanding of growing and retaining subscription revenue business models and experience with web/mobile analytics tools and A/B testing will have a definite advantage in the selection process.

“Of course, we’re also critically concerned with finding the right fit for The Bass University,” says Gluszek. “Our new manager will need to work effectively with existing staff and stakeholders. He or she must have strong oral and written communication skills. We need a self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, someone who can lead marketing campaigns from the idea stage all the way through implementation and evaluation, and someone who will optimize our digital platforms to increase conversions. It won’t be an easy job, but it will be a great job for the right person.”

Gluszek was quick to add that angling knowledge and skills are not required, but he realizes that anglers are likely to be drawn to the opportunity.

“We need a marketing pro, not a fishing pro,” Gluszek says. “But if an avid angler happens to have all the right skills and aptitudes, we’re certainly willing to consider him or her.”
