Tidal and Coastal Recreational Fisheries Committee Applicants Sought

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources seeks committee members for its Tidal and Coastal Recreational Fisheries Committee.

The committee was established by the department and the Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission. Its purpose is to provide the commission with advice specifically on tidal and coastal recreational fisheries matters, such as species management, habitat protection and restoration, regulatory and/or legislative policy changes, and increasing citizen participation with our Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The committee is organized with a minimum of seven members, including two co-chairs who are active participants or knowledgeable in coastal and/or tidal recreational fisheries (including for-hire/charter) and staff support. Tasks and topics to be considered by the committee will be requested by the department or the commission, and reports from the committee meetings will be given at each commission meeting or as requested by the commission chair.

Committee members will be expected to:

  • Participate in a majority of meetings per year (four meetings are currently scheduled virtually each year);
  • Read distributed meeting information in advance of meeting;
  • Listen to information provided during meetings in accordance with the agenda;
  • Prepare to communicate and discuss constituents’ viewpoints at meetings;
  • Between meetings, maintain regular communication with constituents, and convey accurate information on department matters to them; and
  • Provide feedback, identify problems, suggest solutions or compromises, and search for closure on department matters.

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online using the department’s application form. If you cannot apply online please contact Erik Zlokovitz for an alternate solution.

Applications are being accepted through September 2, 2022.
