Whether dealing with clogged scuppers or an emergency holing, it’s important to have a hand pump onboard that can remove large quantities of water quickly. The self-priming Thirsty-Mate® model 519CG#3 High Capacity Super Pump from Beckson Marine clears 22 gallons per minute with only three strokes. It has exceeded the US Coast Guard’s demanding test requirements for nearly 60 years and carries Approval No. 160/044/14/0, recently renewed for yet another 5-year term.
Manufactured in the USA, the Thirsty-Mate 519CG#3 is made from a non-sparking, self-lubricating plastic that’s fully welded for unparalleled reliability. Able to withstand temperatures up to 120° F, its 24″ L x 3″ dia. grey shaft has a removable foot valve for easy cleaning. A robust bright red D-handle and stainless steel foot brace allow for hurried use. The pump has a 3′ inlet hose with integrated strainer and 10′ discharge hose, both secured with stainless steel clamps. Model 519CG#2 features the same construction, with 2′ and 6′ hoses.
While designed for commercial, military and lifeboat applications, Beckson Thirsty-Mate High Capacity Super Pump models 519CG#3 and 519CG#2 are also ideal for recreational vessels. They’re so effective, the USCG had to reduce its testing requirements when only these Beckson models could pass. Pricing is available from the company. A non-commercial model, 519C with a 4′ inlet and 6′ discharge hose, retails for $463.60.
