ANOKA, Minn. — Vista Outdoor Inc. (NYSE: VSTO), the parent company of 41 renowned brands that design, manufacture and market sporting and outdoor products to consumers around the globe, last week led a delegation of representatives from Simms Fishing Products, QuietKat and Stone Glacier on a tour of Washington, D.C., to showcase the companies’ support of America’s Outdoor Recreation Act.
The team visited the offices of key Congressional leaders from both parties, including Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.), and Reps. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), Blake Moore (R-Utah) and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho). Each leader is an advocate for public lands, conservation and outdoor recreation, which provided a receptive audience for the Vista Outdoor delegation.
Vista Outdoor Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Fred Ferguson was joined on the tour of Capitol Hill by Logan Holtz of QuietKat, Strick Walker of Simms Fishing and Jeff Sposito of Stone Glacier. The four shared their reasoning behind why passing America’s Outdoor Recreation Act is critical with important policymakers.
“America’s Outdoor Recreation Act policies will enable long-overdue permit streamlining, update outdoor recreation infrastructure, improve long-range mountain bike trails, increase access to green spaces in underserved communities, and increase access to recreational shooting ranges,” Ferguson said. “All of these policies have strong bipartisan support and are commonsense solutions to maintain and enrich the places we love most.”
America’s Outdoor Recreation Act is a bipartisan package that contains several ground-breaking recreation bills, including the Outdoor Recreation Act, the Simplifying Outdoor Access for Recreation Act, the Recreation-Not-Red-Tape Act, the Gateway Community and Recreation Enhancement Act, the Federal Interior Lands Media Act, the Biking on Long Distance Trails Act, and many others.
According to the Act’s introduction, “America’s vast outdoor recreation resources play a vital role in enhancing people’s lives and well-being. These resources also provide conservation benefits and critical economic support to local communities and businesses. As public demand to access and enjoyment of Federal recreational lands increases, new challenges arise with respect to regulations, infrastructure, and permitting. Addressing these challenges to meet America’s diverse recreation needs will require new, innovative, and collaborative approaches.”
Vista Outdoor and its brands now ask other outdoor industry stakeholders to join them in support of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to protect our public lands as a result of increased visitation, ensuring we sustain the outdoors for generations to come.
