Job Overview:

As the Editor-in-Chief of Wired2fish, you will lead our editorial team and oversee the production of content for the website. This role involves developing styling guidelines, determining content strategy, reviewing content, contributing editorial pieces, and managing day-to-day content operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audience Growth: Lead initiatives to boost website traffic through new content, content updates, and audience engagement.
  • Publishing Guidelines: Determine and establish publishing guidelines to maintain editorial standards and consistency in line with Wired2fish’s mission and audience expectations.
  • Editorial Calendar Management: Work closely with the team to develop and manage the editorial calendar using content management systems (Asana), ensuring alignment with audience interests, seasonal trends, and industry events.
  • Content Selection: Make final decisions regarding the selection of stories, articles, videos, and photographs for publication, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and appeal to Wired2fish’s audience.
  • Editing and Review: Provide guidance and feedback to writers and editors to enhance the quality, clarity, and consistency of content, adhering to Wired2fish’s editorial guidelines and style.
  • Content Creation: Test and write editorial pieces, buyer’s guides, and best-of articles, complemented by engaging photography and multimedia elements to enrich the reader experience.
  • Industry Trends: Stay up to date with industry trends, new products and technologies, and relevant news to ensure timely and relevant content.
  • Advertiser Relationships: Maintain relationships with advertisers and sponsors, collaborating on content opportunities while upholding Wired2fish’s editorial integrity and transparency.
  • SEO and Audience Engagement: Implement company playbook SEO best practices to optimize content visibility and drive organic traffic, while also fostering audience engagement through social media and community-building initiatives.
  • Affiliate Strategy Management: Oversee Wired2fish’s affiliate strategy outlined by the company, identifying opportunities to integrate affiliate content seamlessly within the editorial framework.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, and develop writers, editors, and contributors, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment conducive to creativity, growth, and excellence.

Qualifications and Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong reputation in the fishing industry as a writer/editor, with a deep understanding of angling techniques, gear, and trends.
  • Proven experience in leading editorial teams, with exceptional writing, research, and photography skills.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, along with familiarity with collaborative tools like Asana for editorial planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and the fishing community.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a passion for fishing, digital media, and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in SEO optimization and affiliate content strategy within a digital media context.
