Work Underway on South Dakota’s Mina Lake Spillway

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department (GFP) has signed a contract with Meyer Contracting to perform the spillway replacement at Mina Lake. Meyer Contracting is based out of Maple Grove, Minnesota.

The contractor began mobilizing equipment last week and will start with staking and silt fencing around the work area, followed by creating a diversion channel north of the existing spillway. Following the completion of this work, they will then proceed with the removal and installation of the new spillway structure.

A de-watering plan will be submitted by the contractor and local GFP staff will assess and monitor lake levels during the construction project. Updates continue to be provided to the public through the Mina Lake website page, the Aberdeen American Newspaper, and the Mina Lake Association.

Mina Lake Recreation Area will continue to be open during the project, but the archery range will be closed. Temporary road closures of Nesbitt Drive will be coordinated through GFP and the local highway department. The project is scheduled for substantial completion prior to the spring run-off in 2022.

GFP asks Mina Lake users and local residents to be patient and understanding of completing this very important project to ensure effective and efficient installation of a new spillway structure. For more information please contact local GFP staff.
